Online Experience, Student Services, and Support

At DeSales University, online learning is designed to help you move forward with confidence.

The SLP field asks you to grow in knowledge, skill, and compassion. That’s why DeSales creates an online learning environment that supports you as a whole student; you won’t just complete coursework on your own. You’ll learn in a community that values academic excellence, practical preparation, and meaningful relationships.

Our online experience is made for students who need a format that fits real life. Whether you’re balancing work, family, or other responsibilities, you can move through your education with a structure that supports steady progress. At the same time, you’ll stay connected to faculty, classmates, and the broader DeSales community.

We’re committed to helping students succeed at every stage of the journey. That support includes resources such as:

  • Dedicated Support: Get one-on-one guidance as you explore the program, review admissions requirements, and plan your clinical placements.
  • Accessible Faculty: Learn from faculty who support your growth and help connect course concepts to real clinical practice.
  • Technical Support: Get help when you need it so technology doesn’t slow your progress.
  • Student Resources: Access services that support academic success, personal well-being, and your overall student experience.
  • Connected Learning Community: Build relationships with peers who share your interest in communication, care, and making a difference.

Prepare for Success

Set Expectations Early

Online learning gives you flexibility, but it also requires consistency. Before classes begin, take time to think through how you’ll balance coursework with work, family, and other responsibilities. A realistic plan can help you feel more prepared for the online coursework portion of the program.

You can work while completing the online coursework portion of the program. However, once you begin your clinical experiences, you’ll need to dedicate your full attention to the program and won’t be able to maintain full-time employment.

Review Your Course Details

Start each term by reviewing the syllabus, assignment schedule, and program expectations. In a graduate program, it’s important to understand deadlines, participation requirements, and major milestones early.

Build a Semester Calendar

Add due dates, class responsibilities, and key check-in points to a calendar you actually use. When you map things out in advance, it’s easier to stay organized and reduce stress during busy weeks.

Stay Connected

Online learning doesn’t have to feel distant. Participate in class discussions, reach out when you have questions, and build relationships with classmates and faculty. Those connections can make your experience stronger, more encouraging, and more rewarding.

Avoid Last-Minute Pressure

Graduate study moves quickly. Break larger assignments into smaller steps and set personal deadlines that help you stay ahead. Small, steady progress often works better than trying to do everything at once.

Time Management

Here are some practical ways to stay on track:

  • Block study time on your calendar each week, and treat it like an appointment.
  • Break large assignments into smaller tasks with clear deadlines.
  • Start readings and projects early so you have time to reflect and prepare.
  • Use one calendar or task list to keep all deadlines in one place.
  • Plan ahead for busy weeks by getting work done early when your schedule is lighter.
  • If you fall behind, don’t panic. Refocus on the next priority, and rebuild your momentum step by step.
